About the organisation
Our organisation is a public organisation, run by The government of the Republic of Slovenia - The Ministry of Education. We collaborate closely with The Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs and also with The Ministry of Justice.
The treatment covers two levels: educational activities and school.
The organisation's aim is to help youngsters with behaviour and emotional problems to overcome different problems and to help them to achieve vocational education. There are 3 vocational and 1 lower vocational programmes available to youngsters: a cook, a dress-maker, an administrator and a confectioner.

Brief history of the organisation:
Vzgojno-izobraževalni zavod Višnja Gora was founded in 1948 by the government as an institution for girls in order to perform educational and teaching activities for youngsters with special needs – emotional and behavior problems. Our mission is to provide help in overcoming those difficulties.
Brief description of the population:
Our institution was primarily meant for girls. However, since 1992 we also accept boys. Youngsters are aged between 14-18. They come from all over Slovenia. There can be up to 50 boarding youngsters in 5 educational groups and 8 in detached residential group.
They have special needs – behaviour and emotional problems – which nor parents neither other professionals could deal with in order to help them. It turned out they need professional, more intensive care.
Their problems according to DSM IV classifications are as following:
With primary support group
Problems related to the social environment
Educational problems
Economic problems
Problems related to interaction with the legal system/crime
There are also youngsters from local surrounding that attend just school – students.
Our organisation has been participating in the following projects:
Leonardo Da Vinci projects since 2000 – partners with Italy, Spain, Latvia, Ireland;
Comenius projects;
Competition run by Tourist Association of Slovenia,
Different appearances at congresses, symposiums and seminars (music group Star dust).
